Laura Ling and Euna Lee were released on a "special pardon" today by Kim Jong Il. The two journalists were arrested on March 17th near the Chinese-North Korean border and were sentenced to 12 years of hard labor by North Korea's high court. They were arrested for "Sneaking into the country illegally and planning a smear campaign." The big news is that Bill Clinton flew over to Pyongyang on the 31st of June to initiate talks to ease the tension North Korea has with the U.S. It seems the campaign was successful because Bill Clinton had provided North Korea with a level of respect that they so desperately crave, but rarely receive. Laura and Euna's families are overjoyed at the news. They expressed gratitude to the U.S. government, President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore for their "tireless efforts to bring Laura and Euna home." Update: The two journalists have left North Korea with Bill Clinton and will be arriving in Los Angeles to be reunited with their families. Update: The two journalists arrived with Bill Clinton to Burbank Airport shortly after 6:00AM PST. They were joined by their families and former Vice-President Al Gore.
