On December 5, Heather Cho made headlines when it was reported that, as Korean Air's vice president, she turned a plane around in order to kick out a crew member. The story goes that Cho was served the nuts on a plane going from New York to Seoul (Flight 86) when she didn't ask for them. Some news sources state that the nuts were also served in a bag instead of on a plate. Cho called over the head of service (the purser) Park Chang Jin and asked him to recite Korean Air's policy on serving nuts. When he wasn't able to answer correctly, Cho ordered that the plane turn around so that the purser could be kicked out. The order was followed; the plane returned to New York to drop off the purser before departing for Seoul again. In the end, the plane was 11 minutes late in arrival.

Park has claimed that at the time, Cho had verbally abused both him and another stewardess. He further stated that Cho assaulted him by jabbing his hand incessantly. A first-class passenger also spoke up, saying that Cho pushed Park and the stewardess and threw objects as if throwing a violent tantrum.

Although the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport has confirmed some of these claims, particularly the claim that Cho turned the plane around over a plate of nuts and that she verbally abused her employees, the ministry has been unable to ascertain whether she used violence.

Currently Cho and Korean Air are being investigated for the December 5 incident. However, according to the court, Cho and a Mr. Yeo are being arrested for interfering with investigations. While Cho was accused of systematically concealing proof of the "nut rage" incident, Yeo admitted to destroying evidence. Korean Air has also been accused multiple times for attempting to force its employees aboard the Flight 86 to lie about the events that had occurred.

In the clip provided above, Cho is shown being briefly interviewed over her arrest. At the 0:30 mark, the reporter asks, "Do you have anything you'd like to say to the passengers and crew members who were aboard the plane with you?" At this, Cho responds, "I'm sorry."

The reporter continues to ask, "Do you still deny that you assaulted and verbally abused [the crew members]?" At this, Cho says nothing.

At the 1:10 mark, Yeo is interviewed regarding his arrest as well. He says, "I have admitted to [my charge]." The reporter prods, "What part have you admitted to?" to which Yeo continues, "I was handling business and I have admitted to the parts where I was wrong."

With Cho and Yeo's arrest, it is believed that the "nut rage" investigation will now gain momentum. It has been further reported that Korean Air is suspected to have ties with the ministry. This issue will also be investigated.
