The equipment they're using--called flyboards--are actually used in a sport of flyboarding, in which athletes are tested in their skills of balance and mastery of the waves, much like jet-skiing or surfing. It's a very new sport. Zapata Racing started developing these flyboards back in the Spring of 2011 and started hosting Flyboard World Cups since 2012. Currently, more than 2500 flyboards are in circulation--meaning more than 2500 Iron Men are out there, all over the world, hovering over the waves.
