MC Mong opened up about a recent suicide attempt in a heartfelt Instagram post on November 11. Alongside a photo of his injured wrist, the artist revealed that he tried to take his own life about a month ago.
MC Mong recounted that ten minutes after the attempt, when the police arrived, he could not control his tears and broke down. He said one officer told him, “I listened to your music today as well,” which overwhelmed him emotionally.
He described the mental state that led him to the attempt. MC Mong said he felt like he had lost everything, including money and music, and wanted to die. At the same time, he said the strongest feeling he experienced was regret. He admitted that attempting suicide was the most foolish thing he had ever done in his entire life.
Addressing public perception, MC Mong reflected on how he has been viewed over the years. He asked if people still see him as a wild monkey shouting '2 Days & 1 Night' or as a washed-up member of an old generation. He added that he fought not for evading military duty but did not feel that he had gained any glory.
He also spoke about dealing with criticism and media coverage. He said he had never responded to an article written without his consent and had never reported a single malicious comment. He revealed that he had endured more pain than the public could imagine for a long time.
In a message emphasizing the value of life, MC Mong said he wants to remember the moment he tried to give up on life. He apologized and promised to live strongly and work hard from now on. He also addressed the press directly, saying journalists are someone’s precious daughter, and he is someone’s precious son.
MC Mong halted all broadcasting activities after military service evasion allegations in 2010, but he has continued to release music independently. He recently shared that he moved away from Gangnam to start a new chapter in his life.
