K-netizens question: "She was considered a top vocalist on 'Produce 48' but the current perception..." – What happened to LE SSERAFIM's Huh Yunjin?

LE SSERAFIM's Huh Yunjin made a significant impression during her time on 'Produce 48' as a strong vocalist. She garnered much attention during the idol survival show and had many expectations for her talent.

However, recent performances, especially her performance at Coachella, have sparked a shift in public perception regarding her singing skills.

A concerned fan recently shared in an online community, "Wasn't she considered the main vocal during her time in 'Produce 48'? During the position evaluation, she cleanly hit the high notes singing, 'Into the New World.' Even though Kim Chae Won was the one who won first place in voting at the time, in terms of skill, the public opinion was really favorable toward Huh Yunjin."

The netizen continued to explain, "At first she was just trailing behind Lee Ga Eun and was considered a member who was tall with a strong personality. But then her potential exploded and people were saying they didn't know she could sing so well when she did 'Into The New World.' She was somewhat overshadowed due to the bad editing during the main vocal evaluation but then people were saying it's a shame she didn't get noticed because she had such good vocal skills."

The poster continued, "Overall in 'Produce 48,' there were weak vocals so she might have seemed relatively good (in comparison) but I didn't imagine her image would become someone with unstable vocals."

Other netizens commented, "She couldn't hit the notes at all; it's not just one or two songs, but consistently," "While her tone is good, there are mixed opinions about her vocal color, and it's not just one or two mistakes, but she consistently couldn't hit the notes. At this point, it seems she is tone-deaf," "Even though Produce 48 is known for editing, she really seemed to sing well. At this point, it seems like she didn't practice and just relied on her natural talent, haha. Kim Chae Won also sings well but doesn't seem to practice. If she practiced intensively, she'd sound even better than average. She probably doesn't practice because she's making money without it," "I think her vocals were better during Produce 48," "I think the way she sings changed too," "But Produce 48 did edit the sounds a lot," and "I don't remember Huh Yunjin for outstanding vocals. All I remember is Jo Yu Ri and Han Cho Won for vocals."

I think it's hilarious that the same people who can't tell the difference between live vocals, lipsyncing, and relying on the backing tracks keep shitting all over her about vocals when they can't even recognize when their faves are actually singing on stage or not. 🙄

Le Sserafim AND EVERY OTHER K-POP GROUP all need the same thing - endurance and stability training. That means training for live shows by fully singing your set list while running on treadmills or doing intense cardio so you build up the lung capacity and power to be able to dance and sing at the same time. That's what Western artists like Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and a bunch of rappers do so they don't collapse on stage.

Agencies, INCLUDING HYBE, need to prioritize vocal control, endurance, and stability on stage. Being a performer is about more than just learning complicated choreo. This would also require breaking the Korean beauty standards, because you can't build that kind of endurance if you don't fuel your body for it. That means eating actual food and gaining some weight so that their bodies can withstand the rigors of training. Instead of trying to turn idols into living dolls who occasionally sing, train them like athletes.
