The Super Rookies: 6 K-Pop Groups who had the most legendary debuts

AKP STAFF

The K-pop industry is witnessing an influx of new talent, with numerous groups debuting and capturing attention even before their first stage performance. Over the years, certain group debuts have been so exceptional that they've been dubbed 'super rookies.' Here's a look at six K-Pop groups whose entrance into the music world were truly legendary.

1. NewJeans: HYBE's or ADOR's strategic planning for NewJeans' debut paid off spectacularly. Their first releases, "Hype Boy" and "Attention," not only took South Korea by storm but also became instant classics. Their popularity has only soared since then, marking their debut as one of the most legendary in K-pop history. NewJeans is fast emerging as a leading force in the 4th generation of K-pop.

2. MBLAQ: The announcement that veteran singer Rain was launching his first-ever boy group set high expectations and they lived up to it. Adding to the excitement, the rivalry that emerged between MBLAQ and BEAST captivated the public's interest. While newer K-pop fans might not be familiar with MBLAQ, they undeniably had a legendary debut.

3. Super Junior: When SM Entertainment revealed plans to debut a 13-member idol group, the public initially thought it was a joke. However, Super Junior defied expectations by gaining immense popularity right from their debut. Their charismatic and comedic personalities only added to their appeal, making their debut truly legendary in the K-pop industry.

4. EXO: EXO instantly set the trend for the schoolboy look from the very beginning. Their pre-debut phase captivated public attention as each member was uniquely introduced through individual trailers. This innovative approach made their debut one of the most memorable in K-pop history.

5. 2NE1: 2NE1's debut at YG Entertainment was highly anticipated, coming as the first girl group after BIGBANG's legendary debut. During a period when BIGBANG was significantly influencing the K-Pop industry, there was immense curiosity about what 2NE1 would bring to the table. They lived up to the hype with their debut song "Fire," introducing a new era of swag and style for girl groups in K-pop, making their debut equally legendary.

6. BLACKPINK: Following 2NE1's disbandment, there was much speculation about YG Entertainment's next move. The release of multiple dance practice videos put BLACKPINK in the public eye, sparking widespread curiosity about the group's identity and style. BLACKPINK's debut with "Boombayah" and "Whistle" was nothing short of legendary, catapulting them to instant fame and eventually establishing them as one of the most cherished and influential groups in the K-Pop industry today.

Certainly, there are many other groups with outstanding debuts, but these mentioned here hold a special place for me. It's incredible to see how these groups have significantly impacted the industry, helping to globalize K-Pop and reach fans worldwide. I'm eagerly looking forward to witnessing which future groups will rise to become legendary 'super rookies' and continue this exciting trend in K-Pop towards the 5th generation!

I love EXO and Super Junior, but they're debuts were not that successfull, not for SM artists anyway. I'd say Shinee, who won all the rookie awards in 2008 and still have their debut song covered by many new idol groups, deserve the recognition more (and not just their photo in the thubnail...)
