'The Glory' is one of the top Korean drama series that is garnering much attention these days. Not only is it a new drama series written by Kim Eun Sook, the renowned writer behind 'Mr. Sunshine' and 'Goblin,' but it is also the comeback drama for actress Song Hye Kyo.
Many viewers and netizens have praised Song Hye Kyo for her acting in the latest series where she takes on a dark character out for revenge rather than her usual damsel in distress character in melodrama or romantic genres.
Other than Song Hye Kyo, there is another actress who is being put in the spotlight for her acting transformation as well.
Actress Lim Ji Yeon was often seen taking on female protagonist roles or supporting characters with gentle and graceful nature but in 'The Glory,' she took on the challenge of playing the antagonist - The bully who tormented the protagonist in the drama.
When it was announced that Lim Ji Yeon will play the antagonist in the drama, many netizens were taken aback since she is an actress who often played female characters with reserved personalities.
Nevertheless, writer Kim Eun Sook shared in an interview, "I decided to take the first risk of casting her as the antagonist although there were concerns she might mess up because this was her first time playing the villain." Despite Kim Eun Sook's interview about casting Lim Ji Yeon as the antagonist in the drama, netizens still had their doubts about the actress playing the villain in 'The Glory.'
But those concerns were wiped away as soon as the drama premiered. Netizens were rather pleasantly surprised by how well she played the role of Park Yeon Jin.
Netizens praised, "She is just Park Yeon Jin character herself. She acted so crazy well that I would get scared of her. Also, I can't remember her previous works before this because she played this role so well," "I thought this role was perfect for her," "She did act well. I think all the cast members acted well in 'The Glory,' even the villains," "But I think it is easier to play the villain than those reserved characters because you have to express their subtle emotional changes for those characters but for villains you can have your emotions explode," and "I was really surprised when I watched this drama because I always thought Lim Ji Yeon sucked at acting but she was so natural this time."
More of that please. Much more interesting than the damsel in distress.
