Last week, we featured an article on which female idol stars could best play American TV characters. This week, it is the male idols' turn!
Although the two TV cultures are pretty different, we managed to scrap up a list of the best fits for the Korean version of American TV programs. Check out who made the list below!
SEE ALSO: Which female idols could act as prominent American TV characters?
1. Siwon as Clark Kent (Smallville)
Clark Kent is a sweet farm boy of sorts who is a well-built, nice guy. Siwon would be great for this role because he also has a sweet, gentlemanly attitude and the fit body. It also wouldn't surprise anyone if he turned out as heroic as Superman, ready to save not only the city but the woman he loves constantly without fail. He just seems like that type of good guy.
2. Seungri as Shaggy (Scooby Doo)
Shaggy is a super goofy but lovable character who provides a lot of harmless comic relief. Seungri, likewise, can be pretty silly at times. If you look at the below gif, Seungri is totally ready to be scared!
3. Jo Kwon as Chang (Community)
4. T.O.P as Michael Westen (Burn Notice)
Whenever I see a spy (or I guess in this case, an ex-spy) role, I think T.O.P. He just has that whole vibe down of kicking ass while looking good. Plus 'Burn Notice' can have some lighthearted parts that I think T.O.P could pull off rather smoothly amidst the action and suspense.
5. Yonghwa as Dawson Leery (Dawson's Creek)
Dawson is sort of an idealistic dreamer who wants to become a film director. Yonghwa very recently played an idealistic chaebol who studied and made movies as a film student in the drama 'The Future Choice.' Okay, a bit of a stretch, but either way, both have that excellent boy-next-door vibe that is vital for the show. Cue random gif!
6. Sung Yeol as Sheldon (The Big Bang Theory)
I just really wanted Sheldon on the list because he is one of the most unique and well-known TV characters out there right now. The person I could best see playing him was Sungyeol, who is just as tall, gangly, and somewhat awkward. Knowing Korea, they would make the actor look as nerdy as possible to play a nerd. Sheldon wears no glasses, but Sungyeol probably would in the Korean version--so he has that look down! Also, Sheldon, while endearing, is also very annoying. The Korean version would probably UP the endearing part for a more goofy, adorable rendition of "nerd" rather than annoying. (If this were to really become a thing in Korea... good luck, subbers!)
Scene: Sungyeol comes into the room and sees someone sitting on his precious spot on the couch. Sungyeol says, "That's my spot," but of course in the more over-the-top comedic way that is Korean TV.
7. Heechul as Barney Stinson (How I Met Your Mother)
Barney is another popular TV character who just has to be on the list. He is a smarmy yet lovable womanizer to whom people go for wisdom and interesting one-liners. Heechul likewise has that smarmy look but lovable personality. He certainly gives out a lot of advice, appears to have a worldly intelligence, and could also play the sort of bad boy/playboy type.
8. Taecyeon as Ned Stark (Game of Thrones)
Ned Stark is the loyal, tough guy who follows orders unless he feels like they may harm his loved ones. As he seems like a sweet but strong and protective beast of a man, I thought of the 'beastly' idol group 2PM and decided Taecyeon would do a good job because he is both big and portrays that sort of sweetness where you want to hug him like he's a friendly bear.
