On yesterday's Confessions of an Uncle Fan, I railed against the new 'Super Match' show because while the idea is really cool, the execution was terrible. The point of the show is to match up older/veteran singers with newer singers to create fun and interesting collaborations. The problem was that some of the "veterans" only debuted a year before some of the "younger" singers which confused the whole show and honestly, it just wasn't that fun.
On today's Way Back Wednesday, I will play executive producer of 'Super Match' and create my own dream pairing of today's young stars (i.e. idols) and more established, older singers that we all love as well. Who knows, maybe some executive over at SBS will come across this column, so be sure to include your suggestions as well.
1TYM & Big Bang
How cool would this be? I've always wanted to see Teddy and the 1TYM boys back on stage and what better way to do it than with the group that are their successors at YG, Big Bang. It's kind of like the big brothers showing the little brothers how it was done back in the day but maybe the little brothers have a new trick up their sleeve.
S.E.S & A Pink
Fans have said recently that A Pink remind them of the the music and style that S.E.S incorporated to great success during their careers so what better way to compare them by having them perform together (I didn't even know A Pink sang an S.E.S song until yesterday). Eunji and Eugene on the same stage might be too much for me though I don't know if I can control the uncle fan and the old school fan boy inside me.
YB & CL
The one pairing that I really did want to see on 'Super Match' was CL and YB. I think CL has the talent and range to take on rock and YB has shown they're willing to try any style of music. Would have been great but didn't quite happen.
Shinhwa & EXO
If this really did happen, they may have to shut down parts of Seoul to deal with the flood of fan girls that would inundate the city.
Ok Ju Hyun & Taeyeon
Aside from my infatuation of all things Taeyeon, there's no question she has a great voice, but my favorite girl group voice of all time still belongs to Ok Ju Hyun. I think she's totally underrated and those two voices together singing a ballad would be heaven to my ears.
H.O.T & Girl's Day
Tony and Hyeri sitting in a tree Yes, the initial reason I would want to see this is just to see how Tony An and Hyeri would interact on stage but after thinking about it, I think that this could be a great show. Imagine Girl's Day belting out a girl group version of "Happiness" or the H.O.T boys getting into "Expectation". By the way, when "Happiness" was released in 1997, Hyeri was 3 years old - I'm just saying...
J.Y. Park & Jay Park
This would be like Obi Wan and Anakin Skywalker meeting up for a cup of coffee and I would go see this just for the tension on the stage alone. Let's not forget that the two had a very fruitful relationship prior to all the drama.
Hyori & HyunA
These two divas have quite a bit in common from soju commercials to alliterative names. A joint performance with these two would be an homage to old fashioned girl power and would probably induce quite a large horde of drooling men.
Those are just some of the collaborations I would love to see but want to hear yours as well so comment away!
