Member Kangnam of hip hop group M.I.B will be trying his hand at acting for the first time.
The singer has been cast in tvN's new sitcom '21st-Century Family', scheduled to air March 11th at 11PM KST.
'21st-Century Family' is drawing attention from viewers, as it is a comeback project by PD Song Chang Eui, who has directed hit sitcoms such as 'Guys and Girls', and 'Three Friends'.
In the new series, Kangnam will be playing the role of a Japanese student that studies at the University of Tokyo, as well as studying abroad at KAIST, a prestigious university in Korea.
Lead vocal of his group M.I.B, Kangnam is a Korean-Japanese who was also previously the vocalist of a band under a major label in Japan. The singer who crossed over to Korea to debut with M.I.B spent his childhood in Japan and his later years in Hawaii, and thus, can speak Japanese, Korean, and English. Kangnam also drew much attention in the past for resembling top Japanese celebrity Takuya Kimura.
His group M.I.B is a four-member hip-hop team produced by Jungle Entertainment, the home to Korea's biggest hip hop artists such as Drunken Tiger, Yoon Mirae, Leessang, and more. The boys made their grand debut in October of last year with their title track "G.D.M". The talented artists proved to be different from other rookies, and with their fierce charisma, they've made a strong impression on the public. Already, the boys' skills have been well acknowledged, being invited to stand on stage with globally-respected artists such as Far*East Movement and Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am.
Kangnam's new sitcom '21st-Century Family' will depict realistic stories of the modern day world. The sitcom will tell the story of a man in his fifties who is married to a modern 30 year old woman, the dating life of a 30-year old working woman in today's society, along with various other stories that are relevant to 2012. Without a doubt, '21st-Century Family' is expected to be a shockingly fresh new sitcom that viewers of this generation will be able relate to.
"I'm really nervous, as this is my first acting project, but I will work to show you a new side of myself," Kangnam remarked.
