On the September 23rd broadcast of jTBC's 'Exploration Code J', an unfortunate story about two sisters who worked as extras on dramas and TV shows was reported, leaving netizens and viewers in shock.
According to the report, the sisters began working as back dancers for a TV network starting in 2004, before being offered a job as drama extras by a college senior. The older sister took up the offer and continued working as an extra, traveling to and from her hometown and Seoul.
Over the years, however, people noticed that she had become steadily more violent to the point where they suggested psychological help. Eventually, she confessed that she was sexually assaulted by a group led by the head in charge of extras.
Her parents reported all of the names of the men to the police, but the the men retorted that she had given consent to the sexual activity. Unable to endure the psychological stress, the oldest sister dropped the case during cross-examinations and the men were released without charge.
Later, it was revealed that the reason she dropped the case was because one of the men had begun calling her home with threats of killing her mother and her younger sister.
Five years later, she eventually committed suicide, leaving a will that read, "Suicide is the only way I can live. I no longer have a reason to live." Shortly after, her younger sister followed in her footsteps.
Since the broadcast, netizens have set up an online petition imploring the investigation of her case once again.
