Welcome to another week of 'allkpop TV guide and Ratings', an exclusive feature that spotlights three popular Korean dramas. It will discuss ratings for each week's episodes, as well as provide brief recaps (with spoilers, so watch out!) of shows that we know allkpop readers are enjoying.
We've got the two regular shows being recapped for this week — 'Deep-Rooted Tree' (starring Shin Se Kyung, Jang Hyuk, and Super Junior's Kim Kibum) and 'Man of Honor' (starring Park Min Young and Chun Jung Myung). However, we've added the tvN's romantic comedy, 'Flower Boy Ramyun Shop' (starring Jung Il Woo, Lee Chung Ah, and Lee Ki Woo).
[Note: We will not be including 'Flower Boy Ramyun Shop' in the ratings recap as it is a cable show and therefore has different standards for ratings.]
—--------
Starting with the Monday-Tuesday recap, KBS wrapped up Choi Siwon's 'Poseidon' recently and replaced it with a new medical drama called 'Brain' (starring Shin Ha Kyun and Choi Jung Won). Unfortunately, it continued the mediocre ratings of its predecessor with an 8.8% viewership rating. On the other hand, MBC's 'Gyebaek' gained its record rating of 13.0% -- an effort that seemed almost too little, too late as it ended its broadcast.
SBS's 'A Thousand Day Promise' (starring Soo Ae and Kim Rae Won) still reigned in first place with a 17.6% rating.
Now that 'Gyebaek' has concluded its run, MBC will air its 50th-anniversary drama, 'Light and Shadow'. It will follow the stories of entertainers during the '60s to the present day. The drama will feature singer Son Dambi, Ahn Jae Wook, Nam Sang Mi, and Lee Pil Mo, who all play different entertainers with different destinies. With its groovy style, let's see how well it will appeal to the Korean audience.
-
As for the Wednesday-Thursday lineup, SBS's 'Deep-Rooted Tree' is still soaring high as the king of the ratings with 20.5% and 20.1% (even though its rating dropped a little from last week). KBS's 'Man of Honor' has been doing respectably well with 13.1%, but it will be unlikely for 'Man of Honor' to beat out the power of the saeguk drama. Meanwhile, MBC's 'I'm a Flower, Too' (starring Yoon Si Yoon, Lee Ji Ah, and B2ST's Kikwang) has been floundering in its ratings with a 6.4%.

Short Summary:
[ Serious spoilers ]
'Flower Boy Ramyun Shop' is a romantic comedy revolving around a nuna-dongsaeng relationship.
Yang Eun Bi is a 25-year-old who dreams of being a teacher. She encounters Cha Chi Soo in the women's bathroom when he was trying to run away from his father's men, who were attempting to bring the wayward U.S. student back home. A tarot reader foretold that she would meet her love at the toll of a bell, and sure enough, a bell sounds twice in their first meetings. Originally, Yang Eun Bi mistakes Cha Chi Soo to be a successful 30-something careerman who was "U.S. made", but finds out to her horror that he's a high school student.
Chi Soo ran away from the States and agreed with his all-powerful pop that he would resume his studies in Korea. As it turns out, the school he goes to is the very same one that Yang Eun Bi got assigned to teach. Eun Bi's father owns a ramyun shop in the neighborhood, which Eun Bi resents because she felt he loved the shop more than her mother.
In the midst of all this, a mysterious boy named Choi Kang Hyuk (Lee Ki Woo) arrives on the scene -- a steadfast, if not lazy boy with a warm smile who quietly declares that Eun Bi is his 'wife' (unbeknownst to Eun Bi herself). Kang Hyuk and Eun Bi get close when he becomes her rock against the shocking event of her father's death. Chi Soo feels drawn to Eun Bi himself when he realizes that the raw pain she feels is the same as his, only in his case, he's still scarred by his mother's death.
Needless to say, Kang Hyuk and Chi Soo become rivals for Eun Bi's interest, as Eun Bi intrigues the arrogant rich boy with her inner strength and naivety about love.
Episode 6 reveals that Kang Hyuk is the son of Eun Bi's father's friend, and he inherited the ramyun shop (along with his daughter) in a will written out in crayon. At first, she's furious that she was given away like chattel by her father and declares that Kang Hyuk can just keep the shop because she cares nothing for it. But after a confrontation with Chi Soo and coming to terms with her past, Eun Bi agrees to work with Kang Hyuk together at the ramyun shop.
Chi Soo and Eun Bi's younger friend, Ba Wool, also join the ramyun shop as employees, and thus begins chapter 7...

Recap of Ep. 7-8: As Chi Soo begins his new part-time job at the newly-named ramyun shop, 'Flower Boy Ramyun Shop', he falls in love with Eun Bi even more and continues to work there, despite the "hardships" he faces in cutting pickled radish for fawning girls.
However, when Chi Soo gets closer to Eun Bi, Eun Bi's ex-boyfriend enters the picture with a proposal. Chi Soo agrees to pretend to be Eun Bi's boyfriend, but he becomes increasingly jealous of Eun Bi's wavering feelings for her ex...

-
