allkpop TV Guide and Ratings (10/09-10/15)

Welcome to another week of 'allkpop TV guide and Ratings', an exclusive feature that spotlights three popular Korean dramas. It will discuss ratings for each week's episodes, as well as provide brief recaps (with spoilers, so watch out!) of shows that we know allkpop readers are enjoying. While we've got the three regular shows being recapped for this week -- 'Poseidon' (with Super Junior's Choi Siwon), 'Deep-Rooted Tree' (starring Shin Se Kyung, Song Joong Ki, and Super Junior's Kim Ki Bum), 'Can't Live with Losing' (with Hallyu star Choi Ji Woo) --, we've added a new series to the list: 'Man of Honor' (starring Park Min Young and Chun Jung Myung). -- To start, 'Poseidon' is only seeing slight increases in viewership ratings from last week. The storyline is gaining momentum, but unfortunately, the ratings aren't following suit as the drama currently has a rating of 6.6%. Meanwhile SBS's 'Warrior Baek Dong Soo' (starring Ji Chang Wook and Yoo Seung Ho) held its first place crown until the end, as it finished its successful broadcast with a 17.9% rating. MBC's 'Gyebaek' followed its consistent rating path with a 10.1%. SBS will most likely successfully continue its strong streak with its melodrama, 'Thousand Day Promise', which is ramping up high interest thanks to its cast of veteran stars like Su Ae and Kim Rae Won. 'Thousand Day Promise' is actually Kim Rae Won's comeback drama post-military service, so that will be a contributing factor to the drama's high ratings as well. KBS completed its successful historical-romance series, 'The Princess' Man' the week before, and began to air 'Man of Honor'. However, SBS's 'Deep-Rooted Tree' leaped to first place over 'Man of Honor' and was crowned as the clear winner of the time slot. 'Deep-Rooted Tree' drew triumphant ratings of 18.2% and 19.2%, which is tremendous after only two weeks of airing. As for 'Man of Honor', it still brought in a respectable viewer base with a 9.4% rating. Finally, MBC's 'Can't Live with Losing' experienced a rating rise as it nears it finale with a 8.0%. === [SPOILERS BELOW]         !!! === ? Poseidon (KBS)         Official Synopsis: Kim Sun Woo (Super Junior's Choi Siwon) spent his school days as a troublemaker, but decides to make a change in his life and joins the marine special forces team, aptly named 'Poseidon'. Sun Woo shines as a promising commando, but his career takes an unexpected turn when he becomes entangled in an unsavory incident. He becomes demoted, and gets transferred to a marine police office in Gunsan city. Sun Woo's passion for his job quickly cools down, and he slowly loses his vision as a marine police officer. One day, Jung Ryul (Lee Sung Jae) appears out of the blue, and offers Kim Sun Woo the opportunity to join his new crime investigation team in Incheon city. Will Kim Sun Woo be able to reclaim his destiny and fulfill his potential? - Recaps of Ep. 7-8: Once Coast Guard Investigation Team 9 is able to arrest Jung Duk Soo, he informs Sun Woo of a spy within the maritime police. Sun Woo then investigates secret info in order to root out the rat, and records a conversation between Jung Duk Soo and Kang Joo Min, which yields something unusual... Meanwhile, Jung Ryul investgiates the background of Soo Yoon's father and ultimately clears his case. Soo Yoon comes to terms with her father's death, with the support of her teammate Sun Woo. -- ? Can't Live with Losing (MBC)           Official Synopsis: Eun Jae (Choi Ji Woo) and Hyung Woo (Yoon Sang Hyun) are both highly competent lawyers who fell in love at first sight without knowing each other's occupations; that happiness has faded, and they are now in the midst of their divorce proceedings. Their relationship was described to be sweet and loving at first, but their marriage slowly began to crack under their constant fights. - Recaps of Ep. 15-16: The love triangle begins as Seok Hoon (cameo by Uhm Ki Joon) and Hyung Woo begin their competition to woo Eun Jae and show who's the "alpha male". While the two men fight over Eun Jae (and oddly enough, strengthen their bromance, since they were both friends prior to this competition for her heart), Eun Jae confronts her troubled relationship with her father. Once she's ready to forgive him, however, she meets with a tragic surprise. – ? Deep-Rooted Tree (SBS)         Official Synopsis: A series of murder casts a shadow over the reign of King Sejong (Han Suk Kyu – younger version played by Song Joong Ki). As Kang Chae Yoon (Jang Hyuk) investigates these cases to get closer to the root of the matter, he finds himself embroiled in a massive conspiracy behind the serial killings. The conspiracy involves a group of geniuses who are willing to risk their lives towards their cause, and exert secret influence to interfere with the course of Kang Chae Yoon's investigations. - Recap of Ep. 3-4: Lee Do (Song Joong Ki) begs his father for his forgiveness and agrees to build the Hall of Worthies for young scholars, in addition to learning Confuscism. King Taejoong passes away, leaving the sovereignty of the Joseon Dynasty to Lee Do. Meanwhile, the murder plot thickens, as a death in the Hall of Worthies incriminates 'Chae Yoon' (Jang Hyuk). While Chae Yoon plots the murder of King Sejoong (Lee Do) as revenge for the death of his father, he gets dealt a strange card by Fate, as Lee Do orders Chae Yoon to investigate the murders. -- ? Man of Honor (KBS)           Official Synopsis: Yoon Jae In (Park Min Young) is a struggling young woman who dreams of becoming a nurse. She meets Kim Young Kwang (Chun Jung Myun) at the hospital after he sustained injuries. Kim Young Kwang is a baseball player who used to be hotshot hitter but got demoted to a lower rank. As they struggle to overcome their fates, the two draw closer to one another and find love. - Recap of Ep. 1-2: The story begins with the childhood stories of the two main characters. We begin with an understanding as to why Young Kwang decided to pursue baseball for his career. The story explains that Young Kwang fell in love with Jae In during her birthday party and decided to become a baseball champion for her after he suffered humiliation at the hands of 'In Woo' (Lee Jang Woo) in a baseball match. Jae In's parents passed away in a car crash, which resulted in Jae In having to live in an orphanage. The two come together again years later, as Jae In becomes Young Kwan's nurse. === [ End of Spoilers ]   !!!!   == Stay tuned to next week's episode for more updates on your favorite dramas!
