This week, KBS 2TV's "Immortal Song 2" recorded a 'Summer Vacation' special episode, where eight of the nation's top solo artists took on the stage to compete against each other for the top spot.
The studio consisted of a total of 30 media outlets and 500 judges in the audience, with a majority of them being middle aged and older. This came to a surprise for the producers, as it proved the growing popularity of the program in these past few weeks.
Artists who participated on the night include Kim Tae Woo, Wheesung, Hwan Hee, Lee Jung, K.Will, SG Wannabe's Lee Suk Hoon, Norazo's Lee Hyuk, and musical actor Im Tae Kyung. Regular cast members did not make an appearance for this week's special recording.
The theme of the contest was 'Korea's Legendary Pop Songs Top 100'. The songs performed by each of the artists were selected by the singers themselves, with special judges being broadcaster Lee Sang Byuk and music critic Kang Hun.
PD Kwang Jae Young stated, "We're confident with this week's stage recordings. You can look forward to watching it."
The first contestant of the night was SG Wannabe's Lee Suk Hoon, who sang Baek Sul Hee's "Spring Days Are Going". For this special performance, Lee Suk Hoon stepped out of his usual role in SG Wannabe to truly let his own unique colors and voice stand out.
Hwan Hee went up on stage next, where he performed a vocally strong cover of Park Il Nam's "Pure Heart of Reed", followed up by Kim Tae Woo's rendition of "The Girl With Red Shoes".
The fourth and fifth performances of the show were K.Will's "Tears of Mokpo" and Im Tae Kyung's "Lady Camellia". After Im Tae Kyung's performance, judge Lee Sang Byuk expressed, "I felt like I was watching a part of a musical."
Lee Jung then carried his guitar on stage to perform a soft acoustic cover of "Chungpodo Love". Meanwhile, Wheesung wowed the crowd with his powerful dancing and rap skills in his own arrangement of "Man of the Yellow Shirt".
The lucky last performance of the night was Lee Hyuk, who walked on stage with a leather jacket and pants and performed an impressive rock rendition of "Kick The Moon", making the crowd pumped with adrenaline.
After the recording, a few of the audience members expressed their satisfaction, saying, "It was impressive to see songs of the older generation being revived by voices of the younger generation", "I was so absorbed in their performances that the 3 hours flew right by", and "I was half in doubt, but now I admire the singers' talents."
The 'Summer Vacation' special is set for broadcast this coming July 23rd.
