The 1 Night 2 Days crew was set to head off to Antarctica on March 9th, however, due to the recent situation in Chile, they had to closely monitor what was going on in Chile in order to make the final decision whether to go or not. But now the verdict is out, and it seems like the worst has happened. The trip to Antarctica was ultimately canceled. A representative of 1 Night 2 Days said, "Because of the earthquake, there is a lot of human and material casualties, therefore, the Chile government declared the situation a disaster. The Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade labeled Chile with the '2nd Level Travel Warning'. The crew was planning on leaving Korea on March 3rd, then head to Paris of France, Santiago and Puntas Arenas of Chile, then finally Antarctica." He added, "However, we were not expecting this earthquake in Chile, where the natural disaster killed and injured many people. 1 out of 8 people of Chile's population was affected by the earthquake, and there are nearly 2 million victims to date. We decided that it was a bad time for 1 Night 2 Days to travel to Antarctica now, and so we have decided to postpone the trip temporarily." He also expressed his disappointment when he revealed, "The staff of 1 Night 2 Days have been discussing with the 'Polar Research Institute', Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Land Transport and Maritime Affairs, Ministry of Environment, and more since the beginning of 2009. Also, we have been trying to reorganize the team's schedules since the trip was going to be about 15 days. The PDs of different broadcasting stations understood our situation and thankfully agreed to change the members' schedules. I would like to take this opportunity to thank those PDs." A lot of money have been put into this trip, because they changed all their current cameras to HD cameras in order to capture the true beauty of Antarctica. Also, they replaced all their lighting and audio devices to bring nature to those watching at home. He promised, however, "Although the trip was postponed, we promise to bring you the best quality and sound to those watching." For all of us who were eagerly waiting for the day 1 Night 2 Days finally went to Antarctica, this may be a big let down. However, we would want them to visit them in the best situation and bring home the best possible quality stuff, right? Best of luck to them in the future!
